2021: A Good Year for Australian Homewares

Unveiling New Makers and Objects.

 

How did it happen, that the second quarter of  2021 arrived so quickly?

We started the year with Melbourne studio locked down and ended the quarter with our Brisbane office shutting its doors for a 3-day stint too,  in between business-stop however we’ve had a lot of new projects in the works continuing to bring you innovative Australian homewares.

SOCIAL ENTERPRISE PARTNERSHIP.

We’re proud to have established a meaningful collaboration with the Queensland-based non-profit, Help Manufacturing. HELP provide training and employment for people with disability, Help Manufacturing bring first-class workmanship and amazing talent to enable us to continue to deliver original Australian design with materials locally sourced and Australian production. Help Manufacturing produce the Dog Room and our Platform Planters.

Thank you to everyone who has  supported PEN on our journey, our customers drive our efforts and fuel our motivation to continually produce original Australian homewares. Through 2020 we worked hard to locate new makers and establish new partnerships that ultimately align with the ethos of our company—to deliver meaningful, authentic and quality designs that imbue goodness (read more here). Our efforts have uncovered some truly talented makers which we will feature more of over the coming months….

 


PRODUCT NEWS

IN PARTNERSHIP WITH HELP MANUFACTURING

The Dog Room designed by Michael Ong returns. Rather than simply reissue the designer dog kennel, we reworked the parameters of the project to combine excellence in design and manufacturing with a focus on social, economic, and environmental good. The new Dog Room embodies the same passion for the symbiosis of functionality and design as the previous production, but now with improved locally sourced materials and manufactured in Brisbane in partnership with Help Manufacturing. Luxury kennels made with love.

 

NEW  LAUNCH | WALL HOOK

We are excited to introduce Alas designed by famed Australian designer Nick Rennie. Alas is a sleek wall-hook that transcends practicality through sculptural appeal. This clean-lined wall hook that allows the user to decide the vertical angle of the presentation, either the small or large arc of the design can be positioned toward the top and hang your belongings. Additionally, Alas plays with light, its translucent composition throws off reflections and provides the visual interest of shadowing on the wall.

 

NOW AUSTRALIAN-MADE

Field by Helen Kontouris is now made in Australia, using locally sourced FSC hardwood timbers. This beautiful tiered rotating lazy susan is manufactured in partnership with fifth-generation furniture makers and hand-finished in the Brisbane studio. Following popular request the Oak 3-tier wooden tray is back in stock, and we have a limited edition Rosewood serving tray also available.
